Suggestions Through 11/12/14
"I know I've said this before, but our sandwich ladies are SO nice! They always take their time and seem to genuinely care how your day is. Thank you for being so wonderful. :)"
"All of the workers who work at campus dining are so kind and friendly and it really enhances my eating experiences at Oxy! They clearly prepare the food with love for the students and I enjoy eating so many things they prepare. One station in particular that I would love to give a shout-out to is the bakery--I can't believe how consistently delicious the cookies and pastries and cakes are. We are so lucky to have so many devoted staff who prepare such fresh goods for us!! Every time I give a tour I go on about how great the marketplace is--food is an integral part of college life and the dining staff make Oxy's one to envy! Thank you for everything."
We are happy to pass your kind comments on to our outstanding workers - thank you!
"I would really enjoy if the Market Place carried lactose-free yogurt. My personal favorite are the yoplait lactose free yogurts, but soy yogurts, or any lactose free yogurts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!"
The Marketplace now has Nancy's Soy Yogurt in stock. Look for it near the Yoplait :-)
"Please have beer battered tilapia as a more frequent dining option! It is delicious!"
We're so glad you liked it! That fish was a labor of love - literally - it was very labor intensive to batter and fry up hundreds of portions. Look for it to return, but not often, unfortunately, due to the production involved.
"Having one of those swirly ice cream machines would be the best thing ever. PLEASE look into this!!!
We're sorry, but although appealing, a self-serve ice cream machine in the Marketplace is not currently on our wish list, due to the maintenance, cleaning and health department requirements. The yogurt machine at the Tiger Cooler takes a LOT of staff time and labor to maintain, and it's even not out in the public area.
"Hi, I get out of class then arrive at the Marketplace or Cooler at around 10:15-10:25. I want hot breakfast but when we get there, all that is left is a few scraps of soggy bacon or the remnants of scrambled eggs and tater tots. A majority of Oxy students do not go to either the Cooler or Marketplace when an actually substantial breakfast is being served so I, and MANY other students, would really appreciate it breakfast was actually served until its real time of until 11am. Thank you."
We have some VERY good news for you! While the Marketplace cannot extend breakfast - the staff has a big menu changeover to do between breakfast and lunch (we must also give breaks to staff members during this time) - the Cooler has been making some changes. On Friday 11/14 the Cooler began a new extended breakfast service, which we plan to have available on Monday-Wednesday-Friday (at least to start). We've noticed this semester that our customer counts are higher mid-morning on those days, so the cooks are preparing a second batch of breakfast sandwiches. We have also been trying to incorporate more breakfast items in general at the Cooler. These have included stuffed croissants, quiche, bagel sandwiches and even chorizo & eggs with potatoes. Selections vary daily. We will try to offer these items as late in the mornings as we can, and estimating demand based on previous sales. However, once they are gone, they're gone, we will not be able to prepare orders by request. We hope these measures will help accommodate the increased demand for breakfast!
"I really love the sourdough bread bowls that were served a few times in the marketplace. Any chance we can bring those back? Also, the tomato bisque that was served a while ago with the grilled cheese sandwiches was great! If the tomato soup was served in a bread bowl I just might die of happiness."
Yes, the sourdough bowls will be back this MONDAY 11/17 - look for clam chowder and tomato soup options at Chef's Corner for lunch!
"Hi, I'd like to suggest cheesy bread, like these http://imageshack.com/i/mvcheesybreadj ,for the cooler as a potential substitute option for mozzarella sticks. Thank you for your time."
Well, they do look tasty, but baking (vs frying) these cheese sticks appears to require an oven, a piece of equipment that the Cooler does not currently have (other than the pizza oven of course). We're seeking a donor for a Cooler expansion and remodel - anyone interested ;-)?
