We hope you came to Homestyle on Friday February 17 – we served Coney Dogs – minus the beef heart ;-) Thank you for the suggestion – the station was a hit.
“Hi there! I love being able to have waffles on the weekend but I was wondering if there's almond extract in either the waffle batter or the syrup? I was hoping that maybe you could decrease the amount in there? Thanks!”
We purchase a waffle mix in two varieties – Vanilla and Multi-Grain. Neither lists almond extract as an ingredient.
“I love the vegan muffins! At the end of last semester you made vegan banana muffins with chocolate chunks and they were SO good. Any chance those could be made again?”
Our baker was happy to hear your comment and fulfill your request. The Vegan Banana Chocolate Chunk Muffins are back – on a recurring basis.

The brioche bun is not vegan – we’re VERY sorry. It contains eggs. If we repeat that menu again we’ll be sure to put one of our vegan buns at the station. That said we are glad to hear you liked the vegan filling that went with the menu. Check back here and we’ll publish the the Vegan Macaroni Salad Recipe soon.

We were testing a new recipe – as we often do. This one was well received, but unfortunately the labor involved was too much to put the veggie/gf/scratch made noodles on our menu, at least for a regular day at the Marketplace. We may be able to repeat over a slower, break period.

To make these luscious donut-like delicacies correctly we would need labor dedicated to them alone that day. Unfortunately, presently we are experiencing a labor shortage, so not this year. We’ll keep it in mind for the future!

The Tomato Bisque and Grilled Cheese Combo is one of our Thursday Organic Bar Menus. While popular, it is very labor intensive, so we can’t do it often. The Tomato Bisque is on our soup rotation, so by itself it recurs more often. The last time we served it was Valentine’s Day – February 14. We hope you had a chance to enjoy it.
“As a vegan I really enjoy getting the avocado rolls, but recently I've been finding roe on the sushi pieces. Could you ask the supplier to be more careful with this so that vegetarians and vegans can enjoy the sushi? Thanks!”
Thank you SO much for letting us know. This was the first we had heard of this problem. We contacted our provider, Red Shell and they will rectify the situation.
“Would it be possible to stock more avocado rolls at lunch in the cooler? They seem to run out so fast.”
Because the number of sales for any particular variety of sushi can fluctuate from day-to-day, we do not place daily orders. Instead, we have a standing order that is delivered daily, based on the average quantity we expect will sell out by end of day. Certainly, when we find that a variety is routinely selling out early we adjust the order accordingly. Thank you for letting us know and we will keep an eye on avocado roll sales.
“Is it possible to continue serving food at all the stations past 7 pm? It's difficult to find options at the MP after getting out of class at 7:05 pm.”
Marketplace dinner stations are scheduled to close at 7:30pm, but there are nuances. Some made-to-order stations may cut off the line earlier so that the staff can complete their last order at 7:30pm, close on time and not go into overtime. It is a delicate balancing act. Earlier this month we had to close some dinner stations altogether because of staff shortages. We’re sorry for the inconvenience. Both the Tiger Cooler and the Coffee Cart have many dinner options options available.
“I would love to have just vanilla yoplait yogurt in the marketplace. There are so many flavors and having just plain vanilla would be wonderful. Also, consistent labeling of things with nuts for people with nut allergies would be wonderful too.”
As soon as we received your message we ordered the Yoplait Vanilla Yogurt. If you haven’t seen it already, please look for it or ask for it. If it continues to sell, we will continue to keep it in rotation!
“I know the Cooler can't sell chicken tenders because the oil has to stay vegetarian, but I think there might be a solution! What if the Cooler sold those vegan soy nuggets from the Marketplace at the Cooler??? I personally think they taste really good and would definitely order soy nuggets with fries as regular Cooler meal. Would this be possible?”
The Cooler can offer the Soy Nuggets as a Weekend Special, but not regularly. Juggling the production and hot holding of four items as opposed to three would be a challenge, but also the Cooler has very limited freezer storage space.
"The cauliflower masala was so good (at Chef's Corner Wednesday, 2/15). It looked like it was leftover from sometime earlier in the week? What was it from? Please have it again!! :) Thank you”
The Cauliflower Masala wasn’t a leftover item, but it was a spontaneous recipe made from ingredients we had on hand. We’ll consider making it again :-)

Unfortunately the salad bar only has so many spaces. We rotate items to optimize variety. Feta is rotated with Blue and other cheeses and tends to show up about 2x pr week.

Would Vegan Jambalaya be a start? We are serving that for Mardis Gras lunch on Tuesday February 28. We'll see if we can fit in a Gumob sometime soon...

We’re sorry, but the dairy-free Ben & Jerry’s are not carried by any of our suppliers. We can only get four flavors of their traditional ice cream. We will keep an eye out in case that changes.

We carry a Honey Mustard Dressing at the Salad Bar, if that’s helpful. You may use a small paper bowl, or ask the salad server for little to-go container with lid.
"Please bring RedBull (original is preferred) back to the on campus vending machines instead of Monster Energy Drinks!”
The machine in Samuelson Pavilion (Tiger Cooler) stocks Red Bull. We have let our vending company know, and they promised to add Red Bull to machines that don’t currently have it. Expect to see it within the next two weeks.

This seems like something that we could possibly attempt. Since we just offered Chili Cheese Fries (last weekend), it may be a few weeks before we offer these, but be on the lookout.
“Is there a way to offer poached eggs for breakfast/lunch?”
While Poached Eggs may turn up on a special event in the Marketplace (Most likely as Eggs Benedict), we cannot offer them regularly because they take more time and labor to prepare than other breakfast items. and would slow down the lines

No, same product!
“What is the recipe for the guacamole?”
The ingredients in the Marketplace’s Guacamole are avocado puree mixed with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeno, lemon juice, salt & pepper. Here’s a scaled down version:
4 Ripe Avocados
¼ Cup Diced White Onion
¼ Cup Diced Fresh Tomatoes
1 Small Jalapeno, Seeded and Chopped Fine (less or more to taste)
1 T Lemon Juice
Salt & Pepper
Mash the Avocado. Add other ingredients and stir until combined. Salt & Pepper to taste. Cover and chill at least two hours. Use within two days.

We’re sorry but that item has been discontinued by our supplier.

Our suppliers don’t carry a combo pack of Humus and GF chips. However, Lilly's Hummus is available in the Grab and Go, and most other chips we carry are gluten-free except for Pretzel Chips. Fresh Carrot Sticks are always a great alternative.

Hmmm…Vegan, gluten free, low sugar dessert = Coconut Rice Pudding, which meets all that criteria. Next Tuesday Lunch 2/28 at our Mardis Gras Celebration!
“What's up with that tiny, super annoying alarm that goes off pretty frequently in the Cooler?”
This is an alarm on the fire panel, which keeps going off, apparently for no reason. We have been calling in for repair, but the contractor has been unable thus far to fix the problem for more than a short time. We hope this will be resolved too, because we find it annoying and distracting too!

The Gardein Tenders, are offered on Tuesday nights at Chef's Corner. The Soy Nuggets at the Grill have gone through a few varieties, but we have settled on the brand that received the best comments.
[Coffee Cart] “Please have the yogurt parfait again.”
While the Susina Bakery parfait was extremely popular when first introduced (selling up to 36 per day), by the end of Falll 2016 we were only ordering 6, and could not sell them all. We asked Susina to provide a new menu for the Coffee Cart for this semester, to increase overall sales. We jointly agreed to reduce the number of daily offerings to help eliminate waste. It did not make good business sense to ask Susina to continue to make so few parfaits just for Oxy. We hope you will enjoy the new Susina offerings – our menu is posted on the Coffee Cart website.
“The marketplace used to have siggi's yogurt in the coolers with the naked juices, I haven't seen that plain yogurt in awhile and I would like to suggest that it comes back”
We’re sorry, but the Siggi’s just didn’t sell well enough to keep its real estate in the Grab & Go. We were only going through about a case (12) per week, whereas other brands of yogurt sell much more rapidly.

“The date and banana smoothies on the weekends are delicious, but they sometimes have dairy milk instead of coconut milk, coconut milk is great in those smoothies and allows people who are lactose free to have a creamy morning treat. I would like to suggest that coconut milk be used in the date smoothies, thank you!”
This was an unusual occurrence. This particular smoothie is almost always vegan, usually made with coconut milk or almond milk. The Smoothies will not make an appearance on 2/25, but we will be back to usual at Saturday Brunch March 4th.
