Suggestions Through 4/8/16
"Would it be possible for the marketplace to try and not use unhealthy ingredients in side dishes? I always want things like mashed potatoes or polenta, but I don't eat them because I know they have massive amounts of cream and butter."
Some of our Homestyle side dishes are plain and simple, such as Steamed Spinach (v), or Spicy Roast Cauliflower (v) [served 4/4 lunch], or Butternut Squash Puree (v) [served 4/4 dinner]. Some are best defined as comfort food, such as Mashed Potatoes (vl) [Note: we always have vegan mashed by request], Polenta [which we serve vegan; it would not contain cream or butter], or Fried Rice (v), and others are salad such as Tabbouleh [served 4/5 lunch] and Red Onion & Tomato Salad [served 4/7 lunch]
We don't think all side dishes need to be oil free - but we do endeavor to make them - by and large - healthy, interesting, seasonal, current, and diverse. Stop by the week of 4/11 for for Apples Tossed in Mustard Vinaigrette, or Sriracha Green Beans, or yes, some naked steamed vegetables!
"Could we get sauteed rainbow chard (without butter) as a side dish more often! It's such a healthy and delicious vegetable that I don't see enough!"
Bad News: Chard takes more preparation time than other cooked greens. Good News: We know how healthy and delicious it is. Be sure to come to Homestyle for Braised Swiss Chard (v) on Monday April 11 at Dinner - prepared with a small amount of oil (no butter).
"Would it be possible to get pumpkin seeds as a bagged snack?"
We've checked with our suppliers, and unfortunately none carry pumpkin seeds alone. They are available in combo trail mixes only.
"Could we get cauliflower crust pizza at the wood-fired pizza station?"
This would be too time consuming to prepare. We'd need a pre-made dough product. If you know of a manufacturer or supplier, please let us know.
"Would it be possible to mix up the Sunday night taco bar with other options? It would be super cool if we could get some nice veggies and chicken in there instead of ground beef all the time"
How about some Turkey Tacos instead? We're happy to give that a try. Sunday we have to keep the menus simple for our production team, because we have a very slim staffing model that day.
"Would it be possible to have whole wheat, spinach quesadillas? It would be really cool to have a healthier quesadilla option at the grill!
Yes, we will rotate these in to the Grill menu on occasion :-)
"I loved the zucchini noodles at the sautee station a few weeks ago! It would be awesome to have that again (except perhaps this time with the regular pasta toppings)"
The Zucchini Noodles are made from scratch - so glad you liked them! While they are quite labor intensive to make, we plan to do so about twice per semester.
"Hi! This is usually not the case, but the last few times I've gotten zucchini at the grill it's been super over done!"
Thanks for the heads up! We will work with the Grill team.
"Could we have fried coconut shrimp sometime?"
Squash blossom tacos - soft corn tortilla with tempura squash blossoms, black bean puree, cucumber and radish pico de gallo, and watercress"
Relatively pricey and labor intensive items :-) But we'll consider these tasty suggestions.
"Could we get pesto, mozzarella, and tomato paninis on whole wheat bread at chef's corner or homestyle? yum"
Each station serves 250+ entrees per meal. We currently don't have enough panini presses to keep up. We might be able to do a regular grilled version.
"The chicken at the sandwich station is flavorless and kind of gross. Would it be possible to get grilled and flavored chicken? Maybe grilled chicken with a adobo sauce marinade? It would add so much flavor to sandwiches. Also, one time I tried to bring the salmon from the grill station and put it in my sandwich, but was told I can't do this. I'm willing to pay for both, but would like to be able to have more diversity in my sandwiches!"
Here's how to accomplish what you're asking: Bring the bread you desire to the Grill station and ask for Salmon or Monterey Chicken on the bread instead of the bun!
"Could you make chana saag for meatless indian mondays?"
Done! We hope you noticed - we served it on Monday 3/28.
"Would it be possible to get sriracha in the cooler?"
A response direct from the Tiger Cooler Manager: "While I am not particularly interested in adding yet another free condiment to our offerings, I have considered the possibilty of adding sriracha veganaise as an additional topping at the grill station - perhaps next semester - and it may also be included in the next version of Henry"s Special to introduce it."
"Would it be possible to get a chipotle-style burrito/burrito bowl station sometime?"
Another one we hope you didn't miss! We served a fantastic Burrito on Wednesday 4/6: Chile Verde Pork (gf) or Grilled Avocado (v)(gf) Open Face Burrito with Cilantro Rice (v)(gf) and Black Beans (v)(gf).
"Has the marketplace/ cooler ever considered getting roasted seaweed? I think students would really enjoy it as a healthy alternative to other snacks, like chips, etc."
After receiving your suggestion on 3/29, we have tried unsuccessfully to order Roasted Seaweed for the Tiger Cooler in two successive weeks. The vendor was out of stock both times. However, after speaking with them, they assure us that the product will be back in stock and available to us within two weeks.
"I'm eating a croissant this morning, and it is way more flakey/buttery than usual. yum! Did you change the recipe or am I just crazy?"
We don't think you're crazy, but no we didn't change our Croissants. Maybe it was just a gorgeous morning in Southern California!
"The brown rice at the grill for lunch today was so hard that it was inedible. It seemed to be severely undercooked. :("
We suspect that one cook put the rice in the steamer, and a different cook removed a pan too early. We're sorry. If you encounter a similar situation again, please let a manager, chef or cashier know and we'll investigate right away.
"can we get hot cheetos in the marketplace? --hot cheeto fanatic and followers."
Of course - your wish has been granted ;-) We have ordered Hot Cheetos to arrive on Monday 4/11.
"I know that we have a few kinds of Califa almond milk coffee products in the marketplace and they just came out with a Matcha flavor drink! Can we please get it/other new products of theirs in the marketplace? I think it (especially the Matcha) would be really popular!"
Another wish granted - We began stocking this on April 6.
"Hello, Would it be possible to offer Parmesan cheese as an option on the side instead of packaging it inside the salad container? Thank you!"
We currently package some items separately in the Tiger Cooler - notably Croutons and Tortilla Chips that would become soggy if packed together with the salad. Meat items are also packaged separately so that an item can be offered in vegetarian or vegan form. However, packaging most every condiment separately would not only be impractical (consider the labor and packaging), it would also detract from the eye appeal of the product. A Caesar Salad would be just Lettuce with a bunch of small packages on top.
"Hi, I have been receiving Almond Milk Lattes from the Green Bean that taste sort of sour. It wasn't usually like this, but I don't drink regular milk and i really love these latte's usually, I don't know if the milk has gone bad or the Green Bean recently switched Almond Milk brands, but they have been tasting very sour recently. Maybe look into the expiration date of the milk your using. Thanks!"
We forwarded your comment to the Green Bean for their reply:
We have verified that all of the almond milk in stock has a shelf life of 12 months, and has not been in rotation for more than a week. We believe that your experience might be due to the brand of almond milk in question. When we are unable to obtain our regular brand of almond milk, Califia Farms Barista Blend, we use an alternative brand of almond milk that is all natural and organic. If you are ever concerned about the brand of almond milk, you are welcome to ask the baristas on shift what brand they are using!

"We should have more of the ahi tuna"
We aren't sure if your suggestion is for the Marketplace or the Tiger Cooler. We served a seared Albacore at the Organic Bar on the day you contacted us. It was really popular. The Cooler carries a Tuna Sushi, and if we've been running out, please let us know. The Cooler manager is also considering an Ahi Tuna special for the weekend of 4/15 - not sure which day yet.
"I think we should get the Sabra hummus back, and also offer the hummus in the cooler. It is a good snack on the go and a healthier alternative to a lot of the junk food in the cooler."
A group of concerned students asked us to considering discontinuing the Sabras because of political concerns. We replaced Sabras with Lily's Brand Hummus and Chip Snack Packs. Lily's is available in the Marketplace, in the tall "Organics" Case. The Cooler carries a house-made Hummus with Pita (whole wheat or regular) - which we hope you will try.
"Would it be a possibility to get vitamin water zero in the cooler/marketplace. There are not many drinks for people who cant have sugar or are diabetic."
We wish we could, but our distributors are not currently carrying the Vitamin Water Zero.
"The cooler has good vegan cheese that can be used for pizza, but they can't use it for the grilled cheese or any other sandwhiches. They should also have sliced vegan cheese for the rest of the offereings besides the pizzas."
We're glad you like the Vegan Pizza Cheese, but unfortunately it is not selling enough for us to keep it in stock. We purchased one case, it is nearing it's expiration date and we have used less than half. Given that experience. we're sorry but we don't see enough demand to carry a sliced cheese.
"Will you please look into getting granola/breakfast bars without soy, that are also vegan?"
Have you tried the Heart Thrive Suncakes at the Tiger Cooler? We carry them in 7 different flavors and go through over 100 per week :-)
"The vegan lentil and cauliflower sloppy joes for lunch today [4/7] were so amazing!! Please continue making vegan foods from whole foods! (instead of soy) :) thank you for a delicious vegan meal! :D (and thank you to the staff that checked to see if the buns were vegan)"
Thanks for the feedback. We agree - that was an amazing (new) recipe!
"The butternut squash and brown butter gnocchi today [4/8] was Fabulous! Although SOMEBODY in charge strongly urged me to go with the Kogi tacos (which I am sure were equally as good), I went with my initial instinct and I am very happy for it. I suspect that I would never have ordered this combination at a restaurant - with so many other options - but I can now say that my horizons have been greatly broadened. And come on...What DOESN"T taste better with bacon?"
So happy to hear that you liked this #Seniorwish offering. Look for more favorites of our graduating seniors in the next 4 weeks!
