Suggestions Through 9/1/15
"Would it be possible to start offering Justin's Vanilla Almond Butter packets as one of the flavor options in the marketplace? They're delicious! Thank you!
The Justins Vanilla Almond Butter is here! Vote with your dining dollars and keep it on the menu!
"RE: jelly on pb&j containing corn syrup...any chance that could change to a jelly that contains real sugar? i'd gladly pay more for real food!"
And we would love to give you jelly made with cane or beet sugar - but we've checked all our suppliers - even the natural and organic food vendors - and cannot find any jelly made with real sugar available in bulk packaging. We believe the demand is out there, and eventually the supply chain will catch up, so we will keep on the look out. In the meantime, please be advised that our jelly contains corn syrup, not high fructose corn syrup, there is a difference.
"What types of plant-strong foods are offered? Can there be more options, and can they be labeled when offered? Thanks, keep up all the good work!"
Plant Strong refers to a vegan diet specifically developed by Rip Esselstyn. While our vegan offerings are ours alone, we do cook the majority from scratch from our chefs' own recipes (always evolving), or recipes you submit, and many are plant based.
"I have a lot of random suggestions for the MP, so I'll just make a list... Thank you for your time on this!! :)"
Thanks for your list - we're answering each suggestion separately below:
"-Half servings of stir fry noodles as is done with pasta to order" We're considering the suggestion, but at this time anything that slows down the line (even switching between pan and portion sizes) may not be the best use of our labor.
"-Bell peppers and feta cheese at salad bar regularly: We get enough requests for ingredients to fill two salad bars. Given the limited spaces available, both bell peppers and feta cheese are on our list of rotating items.
" -Different options for Sunday dinner" While we understand the desire for new choices, we have our smallest staff on Sunday nights, so whatever we do has to be simple and streamlined. The current options require minimum labor to produce and serve large quantities. Any creative suggestions for us??
"-Hazelnut coffee instead French roast coffee always" We rotate between the two flavors. Both seem to have their fans. As you can see we like to rotate :-)
"-Granola at cereal bar" Come see! It's back!
"-blueberry, blackberry, raspberry parfaits during semester" When in season (read: reasonably priced) we add these lucious berries to the parfaits our terrific bakers make for you daily.
"-Tacos more frequently" There are always Tacos on Sundays! ;-) Seriously, we know what you mean and we hear you. When we have tacos (or burritos) at Homestyle or Chefs' Corner they are extremely popular.
"-Yerba Mate at Marketplace" We're presently searching for a different brand (available from our suppliers) than the one sold at the Tiger Cooler.
"Instead of putting sweetened yogurt in the fruit parfait, it would be great to have plain, unsweetened and unflavored yogurt! If possible. Thank you!"
We have tried this in the recent past and unfortunately it wasn't well received. We agree it's healthier, but unfortunately the healthiest options don't always sell best. Also, vanilla yogurt comes in a squeeze pack that makes it fast and efficient for the staff to quickly assemble the parfaits. Plain, unflavored yogurt is not available in this type of packaging.
"Hi. I overall like the vegan muffins, but the dark brown spiced ones are quite oily. I really appreciate the vegan options, but maybe cut the oil in half with apple sauce? Thanks!"
Thanks for the suggestion. FYI The dark brown vegan muffins are banana, which may be what gives them an entirely different consistency.
"The smoothie bar is delicious and I hope it becomes a Saturday morning staple.
The great news is that the Organic Smoothie Bar (piloted during Earth Week last year) is scheduled to be a regular station on Saturday morning. The Sustainability Fund paid for some of the blenders with this in mind.
**However, we need EVERYONE'S help. The smoothies won't continue to be offered if the concept is spoiled by individuals who choose to drink these wonderful beverages and NOT PAY FOR THEM. The Marketplace staff isn't here to police the students. Do your part - peer pressure is powerful.
"The chicken tinga tostadas at homestyle in the marketplace today (August 31) were PHENOMENAL. The chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the tostadas themselves were excellent. This is perhaps my favorite dish at Oxy and is a major contender for my favorite meals. Keep up the excellent work"
Ahh - thank you!! We'll serve this again just for you :-)))
"Hi there, Is there any possibility of baking the occasional nut-free carrot cake? Thanks!"
Unfortunately we don't make our Carrot Cake here - but we'll put this on our list of "asks" for our baker to make from scratch and see if she can get to it.
